Find below the main initiatives, events and activities of EDEM in 2010.

Initiatives:

  • Signing of a protest letter with other female organizations to the Minister of Interior Decentralisation& e-Government on the issue of quota calculation for the presence of female candidates on electoral lists for the elections
  • Presentation of key actions of EDEM in the informative bulletin of the Technical Chamber of Greece, celebrating 15 years since the founding of EDEM
  • Establishment of two permanent committees: the Committee of Social Securityof Female Engineers aiming at solving questions relating to the social security and making suggestions for improving the benefits and the Health and SafetyCommitteeaiming at solving questions relating to health and safety issues arising from the engineeringprofession.

Events:

  • Organisation of the open conference ' Greek Women Engineers in the reality of the new Social Insurance System', 22/3/2010 with speakers the President of the Social Insurance Service for Engineers, the General Secretary of the Labor and Social Insurance Ministry, the Vice President (then and now President) of the Technical Chamber of Greece etc.

 

  • Organisation of a seminar on "Introduction to Mentoring by women for women" in English to inform female engineers about mentoring and how mentoring can help women to fight against professional stereotypes on April 15th, 2010 in Athens

Activities on the international level

  • Organisation of the Workshop of the European Network «European Federation of Mentors for girls and women-WOMENTOR», in Athens,on April 15th-18th 2010. The outcome of the workshop was to complete a guide «Mentoring for Girls and Women" in English.
  • Participation of EDEM with 2 poster presentations in the 5th International Conference on Interdisciplinarity in Education (ICIE 2010), from June 17th to June 19th2010, in Tallinn, Estonia. Posters were about:
    1. Engineering students: research for their opinion about curriculums and teaching methods laying stress on the gender factor
    2. Students Mentoring: a process to empower women in engineering careers
  • Participation of the President and Vice-President of EDEM in the international Forum of UNESCO: Future Forum "Gender Equality: The Missing Link? Rethinking the Internationally Agreed Development Goals beyond 2015 ", on September 10th and 11th 2010 in Athens
  • Participation of EDEM in the digital exhibition Women in Architecture of RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects), with the motto DiverseCity (composed by the words Diverse and City). The Vice-President of EDEM, Danny Antanasioti, was invited speaker at the conference "Creating change" of RIBA in October 2010

Invitations:

  • Participation of the President of EDEM with a speech titled "Gender Equality NGOs: Importance of their support in the Financial crisis environment" in a conference organised by the Association of Adult Education on "Crisis and importance to support the work of NGOs in issues of development cooperation" on October 4th and 5th 2010.
  • Participation in a conference organised by the General Secretariat of Gender Equality, which presented its actions for NGOs during the time period 2010-2013,on February 8th 2010
  • Participation in an event organised by the General Secretariat of Gender Equality in terms of editing books relating to research on gender issues in Greece, on February 7th 2010

internet and e-magazine: Daily update and enrichment of the web page www.edem-net.gr mainly in Greek and monthly distribution of the e-Magazine.
